At Ikigai School, the Flute Discovery Course invites you into the world of the Indian classical bansuri (bamboo flute). This program is crafted for absolute beginners – children, working professionals, and music lovers of all ages – offering a nurturing space to connect with the breath, sound, and rhythm of a centuries-old tradition.
This course introduces the fundamentals of flute playing – from posture and breathwork to playing your first notes and melodies. By the end of the 8 sessions, you will not only learn a classical scale but also play your first Indian raga tune.
8 hands-on sessions, each 1 hour long, guided by trained bansuri practitioners.
Designed for all ages 6 and above – no prior music knowledge needed.
Learn to hold and blow into a bansuri (flute in G or A scale, provided in class).
Understand the basics of swaras (notes) and how to play them fluently.
Introduction to Indian classical phrasing, simple alankars (patterns), and a pentatonic raga.
Learn to play your first melody in Raga Bhoopali using the notes Sa, Re, Ga, Pa, Dha.
Learn the correct grip, posture, and produce your first clear tone.
Explore diaphragmatic breathing and play Sa–Re–Ga.
Cover the full one-octave scale – Sa to high Sa.
